iPhone 16 – biggest change
AI: The A18 chip will have a significantly upgraded neural engine which will enable new AI features on the iPhone 16. Apple has been hinting at these features during WWDC 2024 and they are said to include a completely revamped Siri and tons of on-device AI features in Apple’s other first-party apps. Some examples of the potential AI features include automatic transcriptions and translations from voice notes, being able to straighten and extend images, and also being able to quickly summarize notes and emails.
Battery life: The iPhone’s battery life has been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the past few generations, with the iPhone 11s having a remarkable battery life, then the 12 being a downgrade, the 13 being an upgrade, and the 14 being another downgrade. The iPhone 15 was an upgrade again. The A18 chip is set to be manufactured on a new process that is more energy efficient and the iPhone 16s are also getting larger batteries (except for the iPhone 16 Plus). These two things combined are expected to lead to better battery life or at least the same battery life as the iPhone 15s.
Thermals: There were many reports of the iPhone 15 Pros overheating, especially at launch. The A18 chip being manufactured on a new node will help it produce less heat, and Apple is also said to be introducing graphene cooling to the iPhone 16 as well as a metal shielding to the battery to further reduce internal temperatures.
